Today I received the DC motor, controller, speed potentiometer and power cord that I won off of Ebay last week. I really hit gold with this one. Motor specs are 4800 rpm, 1.5 hp, 15 amp, and it weighs a ton. It is a Magnetek Model KK-0036T motor. I'm not sure what treadmill it was removed from.

I mounted it to plywood and have been playing with it. Much to my surprise the PWM controller heat sink doesn't even get warm as I play with it a 1 rpm or at 4800 rpm.

I saw a pic on a SSUG thread where a guy mounted his DC motor in a Shopsmith motor pan- complete with the motor sheaves! He had a motor like mine with a pulley on one end of the shaft & a flywheel on the other. So he cut one of the shafts off & extended the other shaft to allow use of the motor sheave assy. I have too much going on to mess with it any more than I have.

For those of you interested, simply keep your eyes open on Ebay. Or if you have a treadmill in your exercise equipment graveyard, perhaps you can use the motor out of it.....

I found someone local that posted an ad on Craigslist with something very terse like "shopsmith drill & lathe $25".. I popped an email to him asking for model info,etc.. He finally got back to me and said he's got an 10E with old & torn manual.. Perhaps a basket case at that price but the motor might be usable.. Not sure I want it though -- not enuf space here.. I do like the price though.. Now if I could find an SS scroll saw or similar for $25.. That would be really nice! :D

I forgot to ask you Tony -- what are you going to use that motor for anyway? Is this a replacement for your SS motor or something else?
