Found an old Shopsmith Magna air compressor on e-bay. Never knew one was made back then. Anyone see one before?

As you can see by the old label, the compressor was designed primarily as a sprayer and came with a spray gun. I have one and it works nicely, though I haven't done any painting with it yet. The are also hose fittings for inflating stuff. I think that fellow got a good deal at that price. The first edition of PTWFE had a whole chapter devoted to the sprayer. Cheers, Alec

Do you happen to have a pic of the sprayer? I have never seen or heard of such an accessories.

I'll post a scan t'morrow - it's just a regular paint gun, though the hose is unique in that it has fittings that allow you to use a regular garden hose as an extension. I also have the compressor manual in a .pdf file if you want it - just send me a pm with your e-mail and I'll get it off to you. Alec

Shopsmith also offered an air compressor SPT in the 1980s -- it was a Campbell-Hausfield pump designed to be run off the jointer PTO. Lasted only a few catalogs; then we dropped it for lack of sales. We don't even have one in the historical junk pile.

With all good wishes,

I think someone in California has/had a rebuild kit for the compressor that includes a new diaphragm.

I had one of the compressors but got rid of it a few years ago.

I also picked one of these up with the items that came with my most recent but oldest (1961) Mark V. It seems to pump ok which suprised me.

james.miller or others, if you happen to come across any more info about a possible contact for a rebuild kit , please reply via this thread. I imagine the diaphragms and filters would be not too hard to make. I'll keep an eye out and do more research myself also. Thanks a lot.
