Pat,
I have 2 Makita 2-1/4 routers that I can use in the OPR or router table or 3 free-standing bases. Free standing D-handle and plunge bases. The standard base is permanently under the OPR
Next router purchase will be a PC 3 hp model for the lift in the router table so I can devote one of the Makitas to the two bases.
It would be interesting to know if people have more than one and what they are doing with them.

I have two routers. A sears 1/4" round router that hasn't been used in about 3 years. The second router is a PC 893PK. The PC has both a fixed and a plunge base, variable speed, and 1/4" and 1/2" colletts. It, so far, fills all my routing needs.
The fixed/adjustable base stays mounted to the bottom of my router table. The plunge base sits in a cabinet in the event a need for hand held use occurs. I can switch the motor from the table to the OPR in literally a minute. Most of this time is needed to tighten/loosen the mounting screws of the overarm. The motor slips into and out of the table mounted base and the plunge base like butter.

I have the PC 893PK, just bought it off amazon a couple of months ago. Plan on attaching the fixed base under the SS router table with the TSIII system. Then I have an old Craftsman router, which I never did care for.
I have a B&D 1/4" fixed base about 15 years old and and PC 893PK with the fixed base mounted in the SS router table and the plunge base available whenever I need to use it for projects. Like Chuck mentioned, the PC is very quick to change over from the fixed base to plunge base and also have both the 1/4" & 1/2" colletts for it. Both have served my well.
