Some folks in B.C. might get to that fair but us easterners as left out in the cold.

Where were they at their own Ohio State Fair? If they where there I couldn't find them!

Hopefully, this is an indication that Shopsmith is going back to their roots.

I was initially introduced to the Shopsmith in a public education wood shop in Billings, Montana. It was at the Pima County Fair in Tucson, AZ that my interest in Shopsmith was rekindled.

Two years later, at the Texas State Fair in Dallas, I made the big decision. At that time I purchased the Mark V and most of the SPT that I have now. I occasionally saw a magazine ad for Shopsmith but it was the exposure at the fair grounds that made the difference.

I don't believe I am lonely in this category. Many of us got our starts this way and I believe Shopsmith is missing the boat "again" if they don't make a presence somewhere besides here on the forum.

I totally agree with you Dusty. Prior to my purchase, I used to see Shopsmith at malls, home shows, woodworking shows and up until a couple years ago, at Lowe's. Shopsmith appeared at events you would never expect Shopsmith to be. It was finally after repetitive viewing that I finally buckled and bought one knowing that due to space constraints, I would never have a floor full of power tools. I will never regret my decision and I baby mine with white gloves. In the last three years of attending the Woodworking Show in Atlanta, I have often wondered why Shopsmith was not there. Yes, there are lots of professionals and advanced amateurs that attend these shows but I venture to say that the vast majority of attendees are people like you and me and wannabees that would succumb to the magic of Shopsmith. I wish they would return to public demo's but they obviously must have data to support an internet only approach due to todays woes. There's nothing like being up close and personal with a performing tool. I just wish I had the talents of thoes guys that used to demonstrate.

I sure hope you are correct, arno.

We obviously don't know what is really happening in sales. Maybe they are booming and the live demo's are no longer needed. Maybe all of the Traveling Academy classes are booked full and the live demo's are no longer needed. There are a lot of new members on this forum and maybe a lot of them are new owners that we just don't know about and live demo's are no longer needed.

Maybe, I sure hope so!

Maybe Shopsmith is about to release that new high tech Mark V that someone here on the forum alluded to. Maybe that would spark sales beyond belief.

Tim - how many of these live demo's have you seen in say the last two years. I saw one a Lowe's about two years ago, maybe 3 and none since. The last one I saw at a Fair was in Dallas in about 2000 (maybe earlier).

Maybe I just live in the wrong "neck of the woods". I sure hope so!

That is how I ended up buying mine. Woodcraft use to sell them. I somehow received a flyer about a demo at Woodcraft. So just for the heck of it, I went and ended up bringing home the 510. If it had not been for the demo, I probably would not have a Shopsmith, now.

A lot of people have never heard of a Shopsmith, and those that have heard about them, others might be telling them it is not the way to go. Seeing live, what the shopsmith can do, can be a big selling point.
