here it is! http://www.shopsmith.net/forums/showthread.htm?p=1484#post1484 All we need now is a barn with a substantial wall.;)
Found the post by searching for the words "barn wall".
P.S. for those wanting to extend their lathe's length - read the postings above the #1484. Espically the 7th post.Hi Chuck,
I tried "barn" and got nothing. Tried a couple of other things too, without getting the right result. Then I had to do some other things, so gave up. Glad you found it for robhix!

If you did a search for "barn", you got a long list of threads one of which contained the object discussion.:(
If you did a search for "barn wall", that list was reduced to only four. None of which look like they would contain the object discussion.:(
Problem here is that you can't do a search for the character string "barn wall". Either "barn" or "wall" satisfy the search. This is a weakness in the search engine.:(
The object discussion, by the way, is contained in the thread "What Horsepower".

Geez! I had no problem at all. just typed the words - barn wall - in the search window and got the four threads. The last one looked like it was the one I was looking for - and it was. :)

Yes, typing "barn wall" gets you to four threads, one of which is the one you want.
If you search for "barn" only or if you search for "wall" only you get a much longer list. That being the case, I guess you can say searching for "barn wall" worked.
I agree that it worked better. It reduced the list from many to only four. But two of those four do NOT contain the character string "barn wall". These two contain somewhere in the text the words barn and wall but not the character string "barn wall".
It is for this reason I say the search did not work properly.
On this simple example, the issue is really a small one but on more complex searches (for longer character strings) you can be left with many false returns.
BTW, if you do an advanced search for [author = nick] and [key word = barn wall] - you get the one correct return.
