My First SS Project

I needed some better tool storage and organization. I saw this in Shopnotes and thought I would give it a shot. Lots of little mistakes, but I feel good about my first attempt.

All I have left to do is put handles on the sliding doors and mount it to the wall. Then figure out which tools to put in it, and what to hang from the pegboard.

Excellent job, Pat. I know this will serve you well. You should be proud.

How deep are the shelves. The depth is hard to gauge in photos. What are the over all dimensions. How are the stiles and rails attached; are they mortise and tenon, half lap or pocket screws.

The only problem I see is the bakers dozen (13) hardware drawers. You'll out grow these fast. Better start plans for another set of drawers.

The original plans called for the dimensions to be 80" wide, 45" high, and 5-1/2" deep. Because of the wall area that I was planning on putting it, I reduced the width by 15" to end up with 65" wide. Then I took 4" from each door section, and 7" from the center. The total depth is 5-1/2", the shelves are 3-1/2". Originally, with the 80" width, there were supposed to be 16 bins. I guess it would be called mortise and tenons.

It actually took longer to build then I had planned on. I had a heart attack Sunday, a clogged artery, which they put a stent in and I was back to working on it Friday. As of tomorrow, I will have no restrictions as to what I can do physically, which is good, because we are heading to Mexico, Friday.

The doors are riding on 1/8" track, with screen door wheels recessed in a 3/8" groove in the bottom of the door. At the top, are 1" fender washer that are able to spin. I was surprised, the doors actually move smoothly.

Beautiful project Pat! Very nice work! Couldn't help but notice the nice square fit of the stiles and rails. It is noticeable how well the holes in the peg board line up with them. Pretty soon you will forget about the minor mistakes. They don't show! If you don't point them out, no one will see anything but a pretty tool storage case.

My project is completely finished, hung on the wall, and most of it loaded. If I had it to do all over again, I would probably make it just a little deeper.
