Now that Nick and Drew are not around ,I feel it would be better if someone from shopsmith would help lead the forum. When we had the Sawdust videos every two weeks there was a scene of direction and growth. Now it just kinda seems in limbo. One exception was the thread on the planer speed box repair. That was a very good, group participated ,topic.

Are you saying that you believe Nick had an effect on the direction that this forum goes (wanders if you will)? I don't believe so. The forum just sort of wanders where ever the postings may take it.
Occasionally we posted something that Nick took exception to and he was quick to set us straight (technically) but I don't believe he had an effect on controlling the content.
There are several very qualified members of this forum who can (if they will) make those needed corrections. The question is, will the forum as a whole accept their input the same as they accepted Nicks'?

But, as the forum moderator, it was his job to do so.

I thought he was over zealous in his control of the content of this forum.

Note to all readers - Go back and read Ed in Tampa's and Dusty's posts above. They are both right-on!
Being the guy that had his rant re: the new Gates drive belts vs the old Goodyear belts removed - I believe he was doing what he had to do. My ranting was technically incorrect and strongly worded to boot. If I had re-phrased the first post, I'm sure it would still be around.
Wandering into the belt issue, after slicing off the bulges on my first Gates belt, I am running it with no problems. I should add, I have logged about 50 hours on it and it is showing no wear and running smoothly. Also I can report that I did not adjust the top speed any different than with the wider, Goodyear belt. My thinking here is that it is the diameter of the variable pulleys (sheaves) rather than the space between them that effects the speed of the spindle.
Best Wishes, Nick and Drew!

What I am saying is things get way off track here at times. Nick would be quick to set us on the right track with inside info. Separate fact from fiction if you will.

I thought from you earlier post you were referring to the inability to stay on subject. We have always picked up on a side comment during a discussion and head off toward Jones with it. I feel this is really a good thing, as it allows us to discuss a side issue at a time when the thought is alive. There have been numerous occasions when someone will bring us back to the subject of the thread. (to un-hijack, if you will)
Yes, Nick was/is quick to point out the fallacy of myths and if one of us posts something not true/factual. I, also miss this authoritative direction. Therefore, it is up to the rest of us to speak up, when we think something posted is mis-information or otherwise off base. So far, I've seen a couple of good examples of this. So far we have been doing a good job of providing helpful information. This is the job of all of us, and I have no thought the future will be any different. This forum has a very good group of folks!
