View Full Version : Arbor won't fit on spindle

I've got an old Mark V and the arbor used on the saw blade and sanding disk won't slip on the main spindle any longer. The spindal has a taper on it that holds the item on by tightening down a set screw. I found no burrs on either the spindle or arbor that would prevent it from slipping on or off.

Anyone encounter a problem like this before? Would purchasing new arbors be the solution?

You can read here about that problem.

Are both pieces clean?

Thanks for the info Bob. First, by reading the responses to the link you gave me makes me realize that I have a "vintage 1970's era" Shopsmith. Hard to believe my machine is considered vintage. It certainly is in better shape than the pics of the one show in this link. Everything looks clean to me, but I'll try and use the fine wet/dry sandpaper and see if that helps. I'll also try the arbors on the left shaft used for the auxiliary drive off the main spindle and see if they fit on that side just for comparison.

I hope I can get everything cleaned up so I can use my machine again. If I still run into problems I'll be in touch on the forum.

Thanks again for your help.
