Fisrt off let me say hello to all you fellow SS owners. The best multi-station tool for limited space wood workers! :D

Now for my problem.
I own a MK model 500 SS. There is a lock rod #504233 and wedge locks, #504235 LH & #504233 RH used to lock the work table to the way tubes. The lock rod goes through a handle in front. There is some mention that the lock rod is sold ony as part of an assembly. That is in my manual which is a 1986 vintage manual.

My lock rod seems to be jammed into the wedge locks and the lock rod actually broke in my hand.

The handle is pinned through the lock rod. SS doesn't carry the lock rod but the do sell the right hand and left hand wedge locks. That doesn't make sense to me. Has anyone else had this issue?

I have contacted SS through the website but I do not expect any response. Apparently it has never been offered alone. I would buy the whole assembly but is it not offered that way either.

What do you think about using a turnbuckle setup if they have one in 3/8" rod. I need the LH & RH threaded rods to make it work. Getting the rod to tie into the wedge locks may be the bigger problem.

Any other suggestions??

Thanks in advance.

Each handle and rod is individually drilled for the roll pin and therefore the rod and handle always go together and should not be switched. The handle must be removed to remove the rod and wedges or install them. The wedges must be close to the center of the rod to remove/install them and the rod.

First of all, welcome to the forum. It is always great to have a new member join this group.

I think you may have some wrong numbers or an old parts list. Using the parts break down in the current catalog (both hard copy and online) - I think the part that you may want is 514336.

The wedge lock number is 514095, the lock handle is 514126. The top level carriage lock assembly is 514335.

If you can not buy the bits and pieces from Shopsmith, I will bet that you can get what you need from Bill Mayo

laybackman, welcome to the forum. Where are you located? I am sure that I have an extra handle and rod. I am on the left coast.

Good luck.

That is the part number for the shaft for the 510 carriage assembly also noted in my parts manual. I have the MK V model 500 the part number is #504233 lock rod and was only offered as part of an assembly, that probably being with the the LH & RH wedge assemblies & handle. They don't offer the lock rod any more but they do have the wedge locks....go figure.

Billstoolz has the parts I need and is shipping them to me.

Thanks :D

I just got an email from Jan at SS. I am told that the lock rod is still available and is #504344. I did not find that in my search of the SS website but when I pluggdd it into their search engine it popped up. That was the part # of just the handle at one time. Totally confusing!
