View Full Version : SS building sold.
I found this out from another member, so I thought I'd pass it along.
I think of this as a positive myself. LESS expense for them and can now move to a leaner meaner operation. I hope "they" let us know what week when they'll NOT be shipping orders.

I think this is a good thing also. SS has been trying to sell this unused building for some time now so this sale is simply moving along with their plans.
I'm not sure I understand your comment about shipping orders. Do you know something we don't? As far as I know SS ships on a regular basis.

It is my understanding they are just selling off the front of the building. They will continue to operate in the back. If you do a search on Google Earth they are in the back square part of the building.

It sounds like the purchaser want to refit their portion of the building for additional businesses to occupy the sold off section.
It sounds like a good thing.
(Hey, I sounded like Martha Stewart there!)

While it might be true that Shopsmith will be looking for a new home it might also be that they shall continue to operate out of this same location. We already know that Shopsmith has consoliadted and left a large portion of the building vacant. I think it was Ed (from Tampa) that told us that.
The article very clearly states that Covington Capital intends to lease space.
Taken from the article:
Mike Skunda, managing director of acquisition for Covington Capital, said the Shopsmith Building, located at 6530 Poe Ave., will offer a great space for companies once the improvements are complete.
Shopsmith may simply lease the space they need (now occupy) and continue business as usual.Only time will tell for sure. You can bet that Capital won't wait long. They want this building available for future occupancy.

MY understanding is that they were going to move to a smaller building. IF that happens, there would be some DOWNTIME.

They could still move and not have any downtime just put everything on backorder.:) :)

I worked for a defense contractor. We shut down a complete operation in Santa Ana and moved the entire operation to Dallas and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The move involved many more people and much, much more equipment. We never missed a beat. We vacated a huge facility and occupied a large three level facility in Richardson, Tx. Manufacturing moved to Iowa. Unfortunately, I was in engineering.
It can be done. It is called advanced planning.
