OK. I know some of you are sending sites you are keeping your shops and projects in. I know there are a lot of free sites you can build your site or blog as my kids call them. But I am new to that aspect of this. Have tons of pictures of my machines and projects but no real place that I call home for me. Do any of you have a suggestion of where to go that you suggest will be a good place to build a home web site that does not charge me a fee to keep it. Needs to be some what simple if I am to use it. Still trying to learn sketch up and not luck there so you know it need to be user friendly. Really looking forward to establishing a place to show my interest that other can enjoy.
Thanks

Thanks :rolleyes:Hi Bill,
Some members of these forums, after reading the terms that SS has established, do knot like to post pictures directly on this site. It seems that one interpretation of those terms allows that SS will claim them as their own property. I know several members that use Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/ . I suggest that you look at that site. By establishing a flickr account, you can put links to your pictures there on this site without giving up ownership to your property.

Tim is right about hosting photos rather than uploading here. Flickr is good, I also use http://ImageShack.US They are a free image/video hosting sight. As far as a blog goes, there's a bunch of sites out there, just Google "Free Blog Hosting" and you can take your pick. MySpace is another option, but if you're knowledgeable in HTML at all, most ISPs provide at least 5 Mb of storage space on their servers for you to have your own web site. You could host your own on that space and not have to put up with any of the ads or pop-ups of the free blog hosting sites.

Posting your photos on Flickr would not be bad but make sure your reasons for doing so are valid. Actually what I am trying to say is make sure your reasons for doing so are not invalid.

Setting up albums like reible has done on flickr would be really neat and orderly. They would be readily retrievable because they are organized logically (provided you have the discipline to keep them that way).

HOWEVER - Shopsmith does not own the photos that we post here on this forum. What they do have is the right to use these photos for their own purposes without asking us for permission to do that. The photos are ours and can be used as we see fit without permission from anyone.

Tim - you sort of surprise me with your comments in this post. You frequently make requests for photos from many of us. I have noticed that you hardly ever post photos - does this explain why?

Nick explained this in a post that I have not been able to relocate yet. He was explaining some of the expansion projects that he had intended to add to the Sawdust Sessions (Hands Online).

...Knot at all, dusty. I could care less if SS uses my photos or lay claim to them. I will/wood use them in any case. The reason for my infrequent posting of pictures, is more on the side that I do knot take many. I have to borrow a camera to do so. Maybe someday I will buy one of my own to keep in the shop. If I was concerned about SS usage of my photos, I wood post zero photos. :D I will PM you with some additional observations.
