My original MKV 500, bought in '83, has a different chuck & key from the newer Shopsmiths. Thus, if you have one of the older chucks, the new key will not fit.
I also discovered that the older chuck will not close on a 1/16" drill bit. The new chucks will.

Hi,
According to the information the K32 key is the one that works with any of the 32xx and 33xx series chucks. My guess is that you have something wrong in the part numbers or a key that doesn't meet specification.
I was watch a show on coffee last night on PBS. These guys were starting up a coffee shop and were buying these different coffees in bags... they then hired a person who know something about coffee, the only thing different was the stamp on the bag... same beans. So what I'm saying is just because it says K32 or the package did it doesn't mean that is what you got.

The K32 key will work for the 3326 chuck as a last resort but it does not fully engage the chuck. I'm still looking for the proper chuck key to fit the 3326 chuck.

Hi,
Just went out to get one of my chucks to look at. For what it is worth this is the one that came with my 1976 shopsmith:
jacobs multi craft chuck
made in u.s.a.
cap 5/64-1/2
mc8k26
5/8 st hole
hole for key measures .270"
The key is marked as"
jacobs KK
The pin measures at .273"

Edit:

I got to one more of the chucks and it is the same as the first.
Dug the last one up and it has a Shopsmith Logo and no other information.
It uses the same KK key.
So I then went to look at my Porter Cable drill, it has the K32 / R5 key. The chuck it self has Porter Cable info with out the chuck number.
So looking at the key the pin is about .246" Dia. and looks long at about .310" long. Clearly not even close to the shopsmith ones I have.

I needed this key and thanks to the great information on this forum, I found a replacement key for less than $5 shipped:

As a follow-up, I received the new key within 4 or 5 days. Interestingly, it was shipped form Grainger. Sent via UPS Ground, they must have lost money on this deal...
Anyway, it fits my chuck perfectly and I am very happy with the transaction.
