LOOK in SHOP TIPS for ..rust removal using potato..

NO I am not kidding! Nick shows us how to remove rust from way/support tubes using... 4"pvc sewer pipe/fittings, water, and a potatoe.

Takes weeks to work, BUT it does WORK. It also creates raw material for magnetic tape.

It would also work(different container) on other parts IFF you are NOT in a HURRY!

ALSO:) check out saw dust session # 14

The only wax I use on my Shopsmith is SC Johnson original formula paste wax in the yellow tin.

I was told that the original formula wax, invented in the early 1900's, was best because it can be buffed to make it slippery. Newer formula waxes are required to have non-slip addatives. I have not confirm that, but it makes a good story. Other waxes may have fine abrasives in them.

Depending on how much oxidation is on the table, I would use 0000 steel wool or scotch brite pad with the Johnsons paste wax.

I would be very careful if you try to use any kind of power sanding tool with a scotch brite pad. It will take off a lot more metal much faster than you would expect.

I would be especially careful around the miter slots.

For the normal application of wax and buffing, of table tops and tubes I repurpose my old cotton socks.

Good luck!
