I have resurrected the SS after MANY years of no use. Had alot of fun recently making small projects. My father purchased the lathe chisel sharpener and it seems as though it works fairly well and it got me to thinking about maybe using the strip sander to sharpen kitchen, utility, pocket knives. Has anyone used the strip sander to do that? Were you happy with the results? I like sharp knives but don't necessarily like hand sharpening.

I use mine for sharpening knives and find it does a good job. With some knives that were difficult to sharpen, got much better results than I could get even after spending considerable time with a stone.
Nick did a good demo on it which can be found under shop tips. On the blackboard he posted plans for making a device to hold the knive so one can get a consistant angle on the blade. Made one and it looks nice. However, I have found that it only works with a fairly short knife. When stroking a longer knive across the belt and moving to the right, the jig or knife holding device will run into the frame work for the sharpening attachment.

Thanks Tim, I should have included that.
Can you tell us a little about that snow your state has been experiencing? Our thermometer has been huddled right up against 80 for the past several days. Having difficulty relating. Windows open. Roll s.s out in the driveway to use it. Can't be having any of that dust inside. grin
