seeking Mark VII switch wiring diagram

Hi all, I have searched through the forum, and over at ssug, but i cannot find a wiring diagram to help with my switch replacement. they have been mentioned on occasion.


if anyone has even a rough sketch on the back of a napkin, it'd help. if you could post a pic, or email me: will.brooke -at- gmail -dot- com

any help is much appreciated.

my plan right now is to grab either a 3PDT or two 2PDT 120VAC 17A switches and cobble it together, but id rather get it right the first time.

Do you have any way of knowing what was there initially? Pix?

BTW The wires MAY be rubber insulated and therefore VERY fragile(cracking) and hard to tell colors.

Thanks Beeg, i had read through that thread already; I don't need a source for a replacement switch (plus, living in Canada, shipping and duty are killer - so much for free trade). I am looking just for a wiring diagram.

Also, BillMayo is discussing the Mark V/5/500/... headstock unit;
the Mark VII has a different switch setup because it can run the motor in reverse. mark 5's are off or on(fwd), (DPDT). The mark7 is on(rev), Off, on(fwd) (3PDT) with 9 contact points on the back of the switch.

as history; the fwd side of my switch has burnt out, and so I am replacing the whole assembly. while i like the retro- OEM bush button switch, i want to make sawdust and care little for the aesthetics at this stage.

I will take some pics tonight, and yes the wires are rubber insulated, and fragile, which is part of the problem, I only want to do this ONCE!

I did some quick continuity tests on the old switch last night, but its totally useless on the FWD side.

I will carefully photo and test everything slowly tonight, and post tomorrow.

My hope was that someone had been down this path before, and could share their experience and solution - clearly I am not the only MarkVII owner with a burnt out switch!

well, here is halfway what i need, on page 15 of the Mark VII parts manual over at SSUG.

its no circuit diagram, but that gives me a better starting point than nothing!

I'll post pics of the svelte-before and frankenstein aftermath asap.

I am guessing....The original switch effective had a 'center off' position?

It had three possible positions?

I think one pole turned power on/off in both directions.

The other two poles provide direction control switching.

I have a napkin drawing for a GE motor and switch, but the motor was burned out when I got this machine. So I installed a newer motor in it, forward only, I have been talking to Bill Mayo about this mark 7 motor and am going to try a different approch this weekend. I tried to send the drawing to you, but the E-mail you gave, does not work. Send me your email through Shopsmith and I will send you the drawing I have . It is for an GE motor not an AO SMith motor, It shows the relay & Condenser. It might help?? Cheers Doug
