Ok -- the jointer I got with my most recent SS was in two pieces, the main table and the fence were not attached . . why I have no idea. I ended up buying all the parts to attach the two, but now I'm puzzled. Here the pic:

The guide bushing (502895) doesn't seem to fit all too well into my fence. It looks like this one might be a bit big? How snug should that part fit into there?

It is not supposed to go in that way. The only thing going thruogh that 'curved slot' is the bolt(506720). The bolt goes through the slot and screws into the threads on the quadrant. The flat washer(506077) rides on the flat area shown around the 'curved slot' shown in your pix. The guide bushing hex shaped end rides on this washer. The handle sleeve fits over the round portion of the guide bushing that you are incorrectly trying to 'fit' into the 'curved slot'.

In the exploded view above, notice the sequence of parts 46 - 50.

46 goes into the protruding sleeve on '42'.

38 (the fence) slips onto the protruding sleeve on '42'.

insert 50 (the bolt) into the handle(49)(notice the handle slants toward the bolt head).

slip the bushing(48) into the handle round end first.

slip the washer(47) onto the bolt up against the hex end on the bushing.

insert these parts(47-50) with the threaded end of the bolt through the 'curved slot' and thread it INTO the protruding sleeve.

When assembled properly, pulling out on the handle and turning it will turn the bolt in the sleeve which will allow the pin(46) to move towards or away from the hole at the other end of the sleeve. Pushing in on the handle and turning will turn the guide bushing allowing the fence to rotate on the quadrant.

Make sure the groove/ridge on the quadrant/fence align.

Hope this helps! The link below is of the parts list to which the 'numbers' above refer.

Ok -- yes, the handle is on backorder so I was trying to figure out how all that worked without that crucial piece of information. I'll try SS back today and see when my order will be in.

MANY THANKS!!!

LOOKS like you'll be just getting it cleaned up. Wax up the slide before ya put it back together. Others will disagree, but I THINK you should wax it two days in a row. The first coat kind heavy, so it soaks into the semi-porous cast iron.

I did not know that wax soaked in. Thanks for the tip. I'll do that this weekend. It is too cold to run the machinery but maybe I can get a saw dust fix just playing in the garage. I need to do whatever I can to fight off rust. It seems like it comes over night.

I read it somewhere in the SS info. But I only suggest that when it's new or in this case. It needs cleaning up because it's sat for awhile.

CAST IRON has pores! Double wax when 'new' or cleaned up.
