Scroll saw part

I just bought a stand alone scroll saw at auction. When I went to change the blade I had all kinds of trouble. My brother says I need a "blade mounting fixture". I don't think he is pulling my leg but I can't find any anything like that in the parts list. Help?

Apparently there was a separate blade mounting fixture with the original type scroll saw. I just went through this with a used scroll saw. However, I had already ordered the upgrade kit that features the clear plastic cover, tensioning lever, and the quick blade change feature.

This would also be my recommendation for you. This upgrade makes it much quicker and easier to change blades. I had an old Hegner scroll saw that had a blade mounting system similar to the older Shopsmith model, and blade changes were a real pain in the neck.

I got a used machine as well and a previous owner had mounted the fixture to the upper arm... so take a look at the machine and see if you see any strange parts attached anywhere. I believe I also heard the the early tables may have had that as a part of the table (mine does not).

First thing I did when I got mine was to order the upgrade kit (555706). By the time I had it cleaned up and ready to go the parts were here so I just upgraded without every trying the old system. Just by looking at how the new system works I knew I wanted it and it has worked out fine for me.

Mine didn't come with a manual so I ordered one from shopsmith but the version they sent is a newer one (and copied rather poorly) then what my saw is... I looked tonight at the that parts list and I do not see the parts listed. If you want to deal with them maybe a call to shopsmith would be the best way to see if they carry them anymore.
