Here is a tea caddy I made this weekend with some cutoffs I had in the shop. The box is southern yellow pine and the dovetail splines and lid handle are walnut. You can see that the lower spline in the picture is different stock than the others (mahogany, I think), and the grain runs the other way! That's called "making do with what you have". :) I haven't put any finish on it yet. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be the best finish for the interior of the box? In that there are going to be tea bags kept in it, I probably want something that is water based, so as to not taint the tea with any strong odors. Thanks in advance! Alec

Hi Alec!! That is one Sweet Box!! Nice work and nice choice of materials! Gotta admit I don't know what a tea box is, but as said earlier, It's a mighty nice box!!

Thanks Chuck. It's just a box to keep tea bags in on the kitchen counter. My wife and I like to have a cup of tea before bed. A nice way to end the day! Alec

Oh yeah - I had forgotten to mention the angles on your tea box lid and the handle. These were a nice touch! Those angles really enhance the dovetail splines. I probably wouldn't have noticed the grain difference of the splines, nor the species change. Using available materials gave you a small, but unique effect. As said - SWEET!!
Nice box there Alex. About the inside finish, why not leave it as is?

Off Subject, but I noticed the table for your early goldie. I NOW know that the CAST IN rip fence lip was on the early 3/4HP goldies as well as the greenies. Am I correct that it does have a poly v drive? TIA
P.S. Any particular reason the left output shaft coupling is on backwards????;)

Beeg that may be the best choice.. and JPG - the reason it is on backwards is sheer ignorance! I had no idea - thanks for pointing it out! My Goldie is a 1960 with a 3/4hp motor and gilmer drive. Alec

THANK YOU! I have NOW learned the early goldies ALSO have the Gilmer Drive.
Does yours also have the 'greenie table carriage busting stud' OR does it have the way tube ring/stop?:confused: I admit I have not looked at your pix for this.(yet)
