One of my responsibilities at my job is to teach statistics to employees. Stats are used a lot in my job / workplace. Reason being, if you can't measure it, you can't improve it and you can't manage what you don't measure. I go through some of the basic theoretical stuff and then assign the employee a real life example to work on where they have to develop a plan, gather the data, analyze the data, and come up with conclusions based on the data.
When Dusty posted this thread, I got to thinking. This forum is a perfect place to do a study. (See Dusty another reason you can't go into stealth mode...you get people to THINK!!!)
I have always been curious to know how many ACTIVE members there are in this forum. This can be estimated by randomly selecting "X" number of members (from the member profile) and analyzing the stats that are available. This is the project I gave the employee today. Should be interesting to see the results. I'll post them within a week.
Sooooooooo, give me your estimates right now as to how many active members you think there are in this forum. Active members are going to be considered as showing activity in the past 90 days. Activity just means that they visited this site. They many not have posted but they at least logged on.
Who ever gets the closest to the stat estimate will win a brand new 2009 ShopSmith, model 520, complete with every accessory available......(I wish this offer could be a reality!!)

Wow, a new Mark V 520. But maybe I could just do a swap. I'd rather have that newly reconditioned Greenie of yours, if it is just the same with you.
And the winning number belongs to dusty, who said that there have been 157 registered members log in during the past three months (90 days).
Please don't ship it to me. I don't trust any of the carries with precious cargo. I'll come to get it myself. While I am there, I'm going to try to swim with the dolphins.

Even if my Greenie is only a single bearing quill? (single but it IS a Fafner class C1)

Your welcome anytime. If I were you, I'd swim with the seals though. There are a couple of cranky old dolphins around that have been picking on swimmers. They must have just turned 70 or something!! :D

That won't be a problem. Cranky old dolphins and I have a lot in common. It may be some of the same old dolphins that I used to spend most of my weekends with. Years ago, we lived in Mission Viejo and I was a member at Sea World. Went there nearly every weekend. My wife would paint and sketch while I played with the dolphins. Those were the days.
Unfortunately, Sea World has had a couple incidents and they no longer allow outsiders into the pool areas.

Well - - I'm going to guess 132 members posted in the last 90 days. However I will be pleased if the number is higher.:)
