I was just looking at the description of the 1960 to 1963 (Brown/Gold/Tan/Anniversary Models and notice this:
"The introduction of the PolyV drive system (the inside of the top belt is a Serpentine)."

Is that an oddity of description or where those machines made with a different belt system the the later versions?

This is the result of the automotive industry going to a poly-v belt so as to be able to route the belt in all those tortuous paths which resulted in them being referred to as 'serpentine' belts. The old v-belts could not be routed in such a manner. The SS has always had the short straight pathed belt. The Gilmer is the same length etc.( the shaft spacing is the same)
