I installed new Urethane tires on my shopsmith bandsaw, but they come off
the lower one came off twice and the upper one is about to come off.
Any ideals why this is happening? is it the adjustment of the bandsaw?
I'll admit that the first time the lower one came off i did not have enough tension on the blade but the second time i do believe that i did have proper tension.
also i did install new cool blocks at the same time as the urethane tires, so maybe they are out of alignment causeing it?
help any ideals?
thanks bryan

I don't have urethane tires yet but I do recall reading something about some of the tires that had been distributed as "for Shopsmith" were not the right size. These were also distributed by Shopsmith if my memory serves me correct.

Did you have to stretch yours to get them on or did they justr sort of slip on. Again, second and third hand, I've been told that properly fitted tires are almost a two person job to stretch into place.

To add to what has been said go to:

You can say the Nick sent you....... if you do indeed have the wrong size.

and a big duhhhhh. I should of just searched for the answer.
But a big thanks for the replies, and yes that is my problem.
My tires that i did recieve from shopsmith are too big, 32-1/2" vise the normal 30". I should of known that they did go on there too easly.
I got an email out to costumer service and see if they can ship me new one.
Hopefully they can. I just dont understand why they still have some urethane tires that are too big in the system. the orginal post about this problem was in Aug. 06.
Thanks again.

Do the next guy a favor, check to see when your tires were shipped and if it was after the Shopsmith post by Nick make sure that customer service is aware.

They are all human, too. Not that we are all prone to error, mind you.

The new tires were shipped after Nick's post, I did use Nick's name in my email, and i will post the outcome on this issue. I just hope it will be resolved quickly.

Well no problem on Shopsmith sending me Urethane tires, no questions asked, nothing out of my pocket, great service.
but now after reading more about them, I am thinking that I should of left the old rubber ones on or just gone with new rubber ones. Two issues have come up 1. the speed the Urethane tires are limited to a slower speed, (I believe that it was 1500). 2. Is the difficulity putting on the Urethane tires.
I'll let you know if it was really a pain in the *ss or not.

I am newly returned to the Shopsmith Family, Havent had one for about 15 years. Just purchased a setup, used but in good shape. The bandsaw tire flipped off so I figured it needed replaced. was not familiar with the urathane tirres but they seemed an improvement. From reading the posts, I'm not so sure. Interested to hear from "urathane users" to see what other users have experienced.
