I have never had a question about my order status until now. I think that is because I have never had an order status that did not include a tracking number. Well, I can't say that anymore.

What, if any, is the significance of a shipping status that has no tracking number?

I don't have a real problem because the order was placed on 4/5/09, shipped on 4/7/09 (no back orders) and no sales tax and it is only now 4/10/09. I am just curious that there is no shipping status.

PS It just arrived USPS.

When I have received an order with no shipping tracking number it is because it was sent via USPS who doesn't provide tracking numbers (only UPS and FedEx do).

Well, actually, the "Track & Confirm" is getting better. Scanners are being implemented on all automated machines, so at the very least it will show when the package passed through a distribution center.

Now that is IF the parcel has "Track & Confirm", I don't believe that Shopsmith pays for that service - hence no tracking info for USPS shipments made by Shopsmith.

AND I don't want them to provide that service. If the service was to be provided - you can bet the cost would be passed on to the consumer.

Furthermore, if I could request my FEDEX/UPS orders with no tracking service and it would reduce the cost accordingly, I would do that too.

I actually agree with that Dusty.

The service is more for the sender than the recipient - after all when it gets delivered I usually know that!

Being in Alaska I usually pick USPS as the cost of the others is not worth it when Priority Mail gets here just a couple of days latter than 2 day delivery. I can wait a few more days.

IF it comes USPS you WILL know it arrived b4 the 'tracking' system does. I have found USPS tracking to be not timely enough to be useful(other than the "we do not have it yet". UPS tracking IS very timely and useful. I can determine where in the pipeline it is AND know when it will arrive. It shows it has been delivered b4 the brown truck is out of sight!

Somehow things have gotten a little "off".

I pointed out that USPS T&C is getting better than it was, NOT better than UPS or FedEx.

I also agreed with Dusty that it comes as an additional cost & is of little use to the recipient, I never said I wish Shopsmith would add that option - only that for my few shipments, the have not.

I should add that for those of us in the frozen north, USPS shipping is the most reasonable, at least for most shippers. However, many do not offer that option (prolly for the T&C problems). I just ordered a few small parts, weighing about 10 oz, and paid $25 for their "expedited" service (only option). I can't wait to see how they shipped it!

And to continue...

UPS tracking IS very timely and useful. I can determine where in the pipeline it is AND know when it will arrive. It shows it has been delivered b4 the brown truck is out of sight!

Fully agree with that also! Their tracking is just that, tracking. And for the most part it is flawless & very quick to report, even during volcanic eruptions! After all, live in this "foreign" land for very long & you will find that many times your ONLY recourse is to mail order, even with the high cost of shipping what you are purchasing it is STILL less expensive. (yes many people think we are "overseas" & shipping to AK is calculated that way!)

I could maintain a blog on just that one topic! Many companies will ship STANDARD Mail to us & charge an extreme premium for all the work they have to do to ship it to Alaska! It seems just another way to boost their profit margin. Shopsmith is NOT one of those companies! :D Oh, and we ARE part of the "continental US", and are NOT part of the "contiguous US". Again, NOT pointed at Shopsmith!
