Hi,

I'm a fan of the Kreg jigs and have been thinking of upgrading to one of the newer versions. This is what I currently have:

3923

From looking at the Kreg site it looks like I could pick either the K3 or K4. I'm leaning towards the K4.

So any owners of either have any comments? Anyone purchased the K4 and wished they would have gone to the K3??

I too have been thinking of upgrading to the new style jig. Wondered if it was worthwhile. Looking forward to hearing from those that have.

I"ve been looking at those systems for awhile now. I had $60.00 in Rockler gift cards, so I took the plunge and bought the K3 Master system this weekend. I have not used it, yet.

I have the Kreg System but mine is older and I am missing a lot of the accessories that are now available. My debate is whether or not I really need any of those items that I don't have.

I have found a pocket hole task that I needed to do that I have not been able to do.

There is one part in the Kreg Jig Master that is sort of intriguing and I am interested in the opinion of anyone who has used it. I don't see a name for it but I would call it the Master Bench Clamp.

Here is what I have been using.

I have the little single set and one regular clamp.
If I didn't mess it up you should see a picture of a Kreg "right angle" clamp.
I asked the Xmas tree fairy fairy for one of these and got it. I'm quite sure I need at least one more. I think everybody needs at least two of them.

I don't think that it is a matter of being able to do something or not without the new bigger sets. I believe that you can do anything with the little single unit. The better sets are just faster at producing more holes with fewer setups. And of course the Shopsmith is capable of some pocket holes too. The Kreg system is just quick and slick and very handy.

I'm sure when push comes to shove that there is little real justification for most guys to spend the extra money and buy the bigger sets with all of the bells and whistles... SHHHHHHHHHHH!!! I might quietly think that but I will never say it out loud especially in my wife's hearing range. :)

You can tell your spouses that I said that for any good woodworker it is an absolute must have and I will tell my wife that you guys all said the same thing. ;)
Unnecessary spending? Probably... Am I going to have one of the best sets very soon? Absolutely... :D

Farmer,

Until your clamp collection equals your hammer collection, you won't have enough. fjimp:p

I think the K3 has the clamp in the front so you don't have to reach around for larger panels. The K4 has the clamp in the back.

That is one of the main differences. So for large panel work a K3 would be the one to go with.
