I was going thru all my SS files and came across two sales brochures. The copyrights are from 1954 and 1955. With all the discussions recently about the Greenie era MK 5, I thought some would be interested in what they look like. I have heard some members mention that their machines colors were a green and silver while others are two shades of green. My 1955 MK 5 was green and a goldish/ green color. In the 1954 brochure it looks like the colors are an aqua/green and silver. The green color reminds me of the color on the later model (90s) scroll saw. In the 1955 brochure it looks like two shades of green were used. Does anyone have an original 1953 or 1954 MK 5 with the colors from the brochure? There is a "Total Price $289.50 Complete " listed on the back of the 1955 brochure. 4393

My past life was QA Manger for a company that made color measuring instrumentation (colorimeters and spectrophotometers) Learned a lot about color and the measurement of it. One thing learned was never compare or conclude anything about color unless you have a known. In the case of the brochures, colors can change over time. In many cases, only certain colors can change while others remain reletively the same. That's why you see color indicators on printed boxes. It shows shades of yellow, red, blue etc. Since one of those color indicators aren't on the brochure, you won't know for sure if any of the colors may have shifted....:(

MickyD , That was one of the reasons for asking if anyone had an original 1953/1954 MK 5 with colors in the brochure. Trying to compare the two. I am sure the color of my machine before repainting was quite different from the day it left the factory. Just trying to use this thread to get some fead back on original color combinations from the 1950s. The 1955 brochures darker green color looks very close to original dark green of my machine. ------Dave

judaspre1982, (in my mind, your name is "Judas Priest"!), can you scan that brochure and possibly upload it to OWWM.com?

Dave,
I think your way of checking color brochure to owners machines is great. I actually tried to edit my post after I submitted it to say that but it wouldn't let me in.

Heath , I do not have the means ( mentally or physically) to scan the brochure at home. I may be able to get my wife to do it at work. I will see what can be done. Do you want copies of both brochures or one in particular?I am far behind most members on this forum when it comes to being computer savy. Im sure you are looking for color copies. Let me know what you want. I have some odd ball 10er pamphlets also in blk/wht.----Dave

I seem to recall(dangerous) the earlier Magna accessories were a lighter green than the later Greenies. The pix of the brochure seems a bit lighter than my recollection(still dangerous). I also seem to recall they were NOT hammertone, but of one solid color. Later ones picked up the hammertone like color.
NOW if I could only remember WHERE I put my glasses!;)
BTW We ARE looking at a screen images of a camera picture of a 50+ year old document. Lotsa color inaccuracies in that process!

Micky D, I am going to restore one of my other 1955 machines this summer if things (financially) work out. I was going to do it over the winter but I bought a used 1995 510 MK V instead. Going to try and utilize the SSs as an income potential. I really liked the silver and green on your machine. The silver really looks nice on your close up pics. Your paint job is very uniform. As you know we are limited in color choices when it comes to the Rustoleum Hammered Finish. I would like my next paint job to still have green as the primary color. I would like to have another contrasting color other than green but nothing crazy. If I can find another paint that is close to original colors I may use it ,but I really like the Hammered paint best. I think most of the paint jobs I have seen here and elsewhere are much nicer than original. The original Greens and Greys are too industrial and boring looking IMO. I always liked the Goldie color combo. To each his own I guess----Dave
