Assuming I were to want to route something on my SS, what would I need, from the headstock on? I'm a bit rough on how the SS chucks and whatnot work.

Assuming I were to want to route something on my SS, what would I need, from the headstock on? I'm a bit rough on how the SS chucks and whatnot work. That depends: You could buy a SS OPR (http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/itemfind.htm?item=555970&Submit=Find+Item), or you could just buy a chuck (http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/itemfind.htm?item=555191&Submit=Find+Item) that goes on the end of the quill. Then you need a table (you can use the SS one) and some router bits. If you do use the SS headstock, you may want a speed increaser (http://www.shopsmith.com/ownersite/itemfind.htm?item=555462&Submit=Find+Item)too.

So, what chuck would I need to fit the 10ER? I'm having no trouble finding Mark V chucks, but i'm lost on 10ER compatible chucks.

(Sorry, I did knot notice the reference to the 10ER in the subject line before...I was rivited to the post which just said "SS".)

I am not sure if the router shield fits the 10e/r, but am positive the router chuck(s) will.

Wold you say the the 1/4" chuck or the 1/2" is a better choice?

And I also plan to use a jointer set up with the SS. Is there a jointer bit with a shank that I can use as compared to a traditional jointer with knives?

if you understand the principles of jointing you can "joint" with any straight router bit. whether you would want a 1/4" or 1/2" router chuck would depend on the size of the shanks on your bits. 1/2" shank router bits are "beefier" and therefore more expensive. from time to time there are 10ER 2 1/2" jointer cutters that mount directly to the spindle for sale on the 'bay. these work to make a verticle type jointer with jointer/sander fence.
