Thinking of buying a band saw so I am looking for a use one. I own a 510, it doesn't look like I would use the same fence on the bandsaw. Am I correct?

Does the bandsaw use the 500 fence or is it a special fence?

TIA

If the bandsaw has the cast iron table you can use your SS miter gage as the fence. If you have the aluminum table you will need the SS bandsaw fence #555645. The fence is on sale at the moment. The after market Kreg fence is also available from SS.

Farley, none of the 500,510,520 fences are compatible to the SS Bandsaw unfortunately.

Dusty is correct if you just try and mount the 500 fence to the bandsaw without shortening it to fit. The 500 upgrade fence is just a bit longer than the bandsaw fence. It is not hard to modify the 500 fence, but it is a lot easier to just order the correct one from SS.

If the bandsaw has the cast iron table, only the miter gauge is intended to be used as a fence.

If the bandsaw has the aluminum table the following is true.

1)The original bandsaw fence has a clamp at only the one end.
2)The clamp attaches to an extrusion mounted on one side of the table.
3)The part which attaches to the extrusion on the side of the table is identical the the original 500 fence.
4)Thus an original 500 fence is just as effective as the original bandsaw fence, but is longer.

The later versions of the bandsaw fence have a clamp at both ends as shown in IDH's post above. His post also shows the newer 'improved' version of a 500 fence.

I do not have my camera so I cannot post a pix. If desired I can do so when I have my camera.
