Thanks for the advice and suggestions.
The fixtrues that I have are way better quality than anything you can get at a big box store today. I bought a couple of those and they feel like sheet metal from a soda can. The ones I have are heavy and have wide reflectors. They put out a lot of light and I am using some of them in the lighted part of my shop. I know they will handle T-12 tubes because that is what I am using. They are single pin fixtures. These extra fixtures currently don't have ballasts because I raided them to replace the ones that quit working in the lighted part of my shop.
I did purchase and install a new electronic ballast in one of them when the magnetic ballast failed. I had to change the wiring to the sockets but that was no big deal following the diagram on the new ballast.
The FWW article was informative and I'll think on that a while before I decide what to do.
