I want to THANK all who responded to this thread.

I did understand the 'normal' meaning of the word 'joustng', but did NOT understand the context of the 'comment'.

I enjoyed the posts which 'demonstrated' the term(especially the Black Knight)!

I have just posted much of what is to follow on another thread, but here goes.

I do not believe that attempting to provide the most complete, accurate answer to a question or plea for help is jousting. Certainly when more than one person responds, there will be differing answers. I believe on this forum, that all 'posters' are 'telling it as they understand it'. Unfortunately not all(any) of us understands everything flawlessly.

For those reasons it benefits ALL of us when differing understandings are 'debated'.

I have come to the conclusion that 'jousting' is just another form of 'oneupsmanship' and typically involves less than honorable intentions and a certain looseness with reality.

I have little to no experience in an environment where such shenanigans take place.

Therefore I have come the the conclusion(with all of your assistance) that I have NOT been doing any 'jousting'! That does NOT imply that I do NOT wish to take back somethings I HAVE posted!:)

I've been fairly active over the last few months and have not seen much of a problem. On occasion I might see a comment that may be a little off, but if you just ignore the comment or send the member a PM suggesting he remove the entry, the problem should be handled.

I for one would like to see this forum stay as is. It is a great resource for us Shopsmith owners.

I concur - in my year or so on this forum, I have seen very little 'bad' stuff and, in fact, none that I can think of. I think the suggestion above (either ignore it or send a private (emphasize private) message to the offender) should be sufficient.

JPG, I enjoy your input to the forum. You have shared a great deal of knowledge and have helped many members with ?s. I also enjoyed this thread. This is by far the best group people I have had the pleasure of communicating with on any forum. I hope we have it for a long time to come. Good luck to all----Dave

I guess that means this tournament is over and we should go back to wood working. The winner has been decided.

This was NOT a tournament, and there was no winner/loser. Since some of my posts which I would rather have NOT posted involved similar conclusions, I will NOT say what I really think and feel NEEDS be said.

Take things said at face value, and save yourself a lot of anguish by NOT reading into something that which was neither said nor intended.:)
