Guys - Forgive my ignorance, but I am still having trouble figuring out how to mount the Magna Dado wobble-dado blade I have. If I try and mount it on the typical SS dado arbor, the arbor is smaller (in diameter) than the hole in the center of the Magna Dado and thus you can't center the arbor. Then it dawned on me "perhaps the Magna Dado is designed for use with a saw arbor!" Wrong. A saw arbor is too big. Does anyone have any experience with these old wobble dado blades by Magna? I am at a total loss. Thanks - Alec

Alec,
My Magna wobble style dado has a removable sleeve in the bore that allows the use of a 5/8" arbor.....sounds like you are missing the sleeve or you have the sleeve and are trying to mount it on a 1/2" universal arbor.

My wobble dado - -can't tell you the manufacturer - - Was purchased from SS. At that time I also bought an arbor for it from SS. The wobble dado has an insert sleeve --to fit the arbor.

Alec,
Like the other guys, I think it sounds like you are missing a bushing. If you are unable to solve this problem, you might have a look at grinding wheels. Now I have not seen a new grinding wheel in a few years (20 or so), but I used to work in a wholesale automotive tool warehouse. We sold a line of grinding wheels named Carburundum (sp?). They came in several thicknesses and they all had a series of plastic step bushings in the centers so that they could be fit onto differant sizes of shafts. If they are still available, or if other grinding wheels come with the same kind of a bushing, it may be adaptable to the wobble dado that you have.

The Magna Dado is made to fit on either a 3/4" or 5/8" arbor (with the bushing). The bushing is 5/8" ID x 3/4" OD x @ 9/16" long. It looks like mild steel (not hardened).
I would like to find two of the little pinion gears for adjusting the wobble setting if anyone has any ideas for that. I really don't need to use the dado ( I also have a stacked dado set) but sure would like to have a complete and usable Magna dado to go along with the other original Magna stuff I got with my new (old) toy. The Magna Dado I obtained looks like brand new except for the damaged adjusting gears.

Mail me your e-mail address - I have a pdf of the Magna Dado instructions that may help. For some reason, my upload of the file keeps failing.

Thanks to all! It appears I am indeed lacking the bushing. I'll try to come up with something.. Thanks again, Alec
