Skip with this group has been tracking the
ER's by serial number for years and has tried to build up a list of what number came through during certain year. I do not believe the company ever really documented like SS did so you will know for sure. But the E's came first for a very short time and the ER followed.
Also if you post your SS number several of use might give you an idea of a time frame. usually 1-2 year period.
Good luck Right now I have 7 ER not counting the two MKV's

From what the guys have posted your machine should have been built in 1950. They say in 1950 numbers should have been between 50000 and 75000 based on possible sales.
Not sure how accurate but Skip might have a different estimate
Thanks

Skip is one of the good guys. He runs the SS10er list
Somebody posted a link above but he will still be away from the list for a little while yet (a little vacation time to himself). One of the ER list guys can probably answer your question or at least point you to a file on the list web site that will.

This posting by Nick (http://www.shopsmith.net/forums/showpost.htm?p=21199&postcount=2), a former ShopSmith employee and ShopSmith guru, along with the pdf file below which comes from the Yahoo ER10 User Group (http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Shopsmith10ERusers/) puts your ER date of manufacture close to September, 1952. My ER 10's (http://www.shopsmith.net/forums/showthread.htm?t=3503)SN is 72883, just 47 units earlier than yours.

Glad to have you in the forum. You'll enjoy the help you get here.

How about posting some pics of your machine. We'd love to see it.

My 10ER ser.no. 49838 has some of the original owner's letters from Shopsmith which seem to indicate a purchase date around October 1951. It was purchased in Canada from a large Canadian retail chain that typically purchased large quantities of an item, imported, and then warehoused the stock until it was disributed to branch store stock as needed, or sold through their mail order division. Therefore, the actual date of manufacture was probably some months earlier(maybe even more than a year or so).
