Hello everyone. My name is John Miles I live in Lilesville NC. with my wife of 31 years :) Brendett ,two cats and a rooster and 2 million honeybees

I work full time for a large hardwood sawmill. Im a sawfiler (25 yrs) by trade. I bench the big bandsaws ,40 foot long ,12 inches wide, leveling ,hammering tension in the saw blades. I've always liked wood working as a child I work with my father on many projects around the home place. Some time after I got married and moved out of the house he bought a Shopsmith. He showed me how to use it we made a few projects together. When my father past away 6 years ago ,me being the only woodworker in the family I got the Shopsmith. I got most of the mannals all the equipment cept a miter gage.
It was great for the first time in 6 years to plug her up and flip the toggle switch and hear her purr like a kitten, lot of good days with my father came rolling back in the shop.

I move to Lilesville NC 2 years ago bought a house built in 1917 . No major remodling needed, but like to refurnish the molding ,mantel pieces over four fire places. Now the wife wants furniture from that era. Except for the wood burning cook stove :p
If anyone has plans on furniture from the 1900's or know where I could get them please let me know .........Thanks Little John _NC

John,
Welcome to the board. Can you send some of those honeybees this way (Missouri). It seems I rarely ever see any anymore. The younger people probably don't realize the changes that have happened over the last 50 years (I'm 51), mostly for the worse. :(

It's nice that the Shopsmith brings back good memories with your father. I get the same feeling about my dad when doing certain things, like fishing. Unfortunately, I don't have his patience when it comes to fishing. :)

Happy Woodworking

With all good wishes,

Welcome Little John!! Out West we called guys with your job Mill Wrights. Is that same title used in NC? Glad you can get back to the Shopsmith. You'll find a plethora of ideas (and questions) on this forum. Hope some are as useful to you as they are for me.

We can use a guy with your background!!

Hey Chuck here in NC and the southeast they call mill wrights the ones that repair old equipment or install new equipment , cut ,weld ,etc. Mill Wrights .
We saw filers just work on saws and the band mills or gang saws. We do all the alignment work in the mills also . As we say :If it aint plum and square it want cut a straight line thats for sure. We feed 400 ft a min in 12 inch red oak . We cut 800,000 bft of hard wood a week lot of saw dust . If I can help with any question about saws Ill do my best to answer them .......John Miles
