In one of the current threads there is some discussion about posting images. If those images were being posted on my computer we might soon not be able to post anymore.
Where are the images that we see on the forum stored? Are they images in a server somewhere? Is the storage facility large enough that we need not concern ourselves with exceeding capacity?

Dusty,
Images on the forum are either stored on ShopSmith's web server (seen as an attachment with a link to view) OR a public image server (ie. ImageShack, etc...), they wouldn't be stored on your PC unless your PC is set up as a web server, and the vast majority of users aren't setup like that. If the images are an attachment, the ShopSmith webmaster has determination of storage requirements/limitations. If the server is getting "full" he can prune the database, kulling old message threads (including the associated attachment images) or increase storage capacity as desired. If the images are stored on a public image server it isn't effecting ShopSmith's forum at all since the storage of the image isn't on ShopSmith's server, only an [img] link to it.

Thank you, Tom.
I was just wondering. In the beginning (three or four years ago) there weren't all that many images being posted on the forum. Here lately, images seem to be the going thing. I really like that. It is much easier to post a picture than explain something with a verbal picture.
I have 40 gigabyte of storage so I don't think I will run out but that would not be the case if I copied everyone's images onto my hard drive. Like the stuff that micky has posted and those that jpg posted (and others); I pulled most of them onto my hard drive. I got a bunch that reible posted too. Problem is finding them when I want them.

This is not something I have not worried about - any longer. A while back when my hard drive crashed, I lost all of my photos. I was able to restore all of the photos I posted here by searching the archives. Went back to the first one which was early in 2007. Copied them and now they are safely back into 'my pictures' and backed up. During that process, I also gathered up some photos of others that I wanted to keep.
We can do the same thing for all photos posted directly on the forum. The ones only referred to by sending us to another storage facility are gone if that service has changed. Like reible's older photos.

Another real nice solution for storing, editing, printing and managing your pictures is Picasa (http://picasa.google.com/). Picasa is another free program from Google and is GREAT.

Yeah, that is good advise.
Problem is, you must be equally wise when you go searching for "that photo that you just know you have - somewhere".
The most recent that I can think of is a set of images depicting "Shopsmith Arbors".
Frequently uttered words - "Now where would I have put that"? (does not apply to just photos)

Thanks, Tom! I'll have to try it out!
