Methinks since you ARE as mike said out in the middle nowhere where the norm is pristine FRESH(unpolluted) air, that it takes very little "CA" smoke to be 'noticeable'.;)

Amazing dl....your about 600 miles away and smelling LA smoke!!! When Mt. St. Helen erupted, I was living in NE Connecticut, 3000 miles away, and I actually had a fairly substantial layer of soot on my car a few days later. Unbelievable!!
I looked up your town in Colorado in google maps. Zooming in, I see that you are out in the middle of nowhere!!! What's your population? Bet you don't hear noise from highways. Looks like peaceful living to me.
Well it is a relative term, but by most peoples thinking we are. It is about 50 miles from a city of 65000. Our school district is the 5th largest in the state and has 320 kids K-12. The total population is about 2500 people and 15000 cows.:D There are more deer and elk than people as well!! Now that the economy is headed south, we don't have the gas field traffic we had a year ago. It is pretty quite. Zoom into the main street and you will see one road through town, so last year with 75-100 gas rigger vehicles going through town each day it was very busy, noisy and dirty. (Most of the town wants those back, because they came with a LOT of $$$.) As for the air, you are right. When I get above the ridges around my house, I can often over 90 miles. The key is that the air is pretty clean, but it is also very dry, so haze is rare. That said, we do enjoy our place.
