I've ordered a replacement set of kinves for my jointer, but like a lot of things, they are on back-order....maybe available mid October.
Does anyone know of another source? Or, does anyone have the technical measurements for the knives? If I remember correctly, the base has a reverse taper instead of being a flat shape.
I briefly discussed ShopSmith jointer knives with Infinity Cutting Tools
http://www.infinitytools.com/
but they need the technical specs that I do not have and I'm not willing to pull one of my existing blades until I can get a replacement set.
Thanks in advance

Do you have the Planer/Jointer Knife Sharpener and the conical disk? If you don't, I seriously recommend that you consider getting them. With these, sharpening the knives is a snap.
To answer one of your other expressed concerns, yes, the shopsmith blades have a taper that helps to ensure that they remain securely seated in their respective drums.

Hey, Dusty....
Thanks for the response.
No, I don't have the ShopSmith sharpening solution (yet, anyway). My first objective is to get a second set of knives. My existing ones are just getting a little dull and I want a second set on hand so that when I'm in the middle of a project and need/have to swap them out I'm able to do so.
I'm also experiencing the frustration that I see from others on the threads with backorder issues. I have a set of knives on order and the dial indicator system....both on backorder. I really want the dial indicator to reset the new (or newly sharpened blades) and I need the new blades...."chicken or the egg" syndrome.....maybe "between a rock and a hard place" At least I'm not totally out of the water on the jointer...it's still usable, just not as sharp as I would like.

Hey Buddy,
Why don't ya try one of those Jointer/Planer Knife sharpening jigs that you use on the knives while they're still mounted in the machine. I forget what the exact name is for them, but they work pretty good for touch ups between sharpenings.

I recently purchased Knife Hone Holder from Rockler (Part 20570) and it works well for touching up the jointer knives. Price $16.99. Quite an improvement from just my first touch up.
If memory serves, Nick said once on a Sawdust Session that using this touch up will carry you a long way before having to remove and sharpen the knives.
