I don't know if this is one of Nick's or not.

I could be mistaken, but this appears to be the aircraft I saw at Huffman Prairie several years ago. My schedule precluded viewing the demonstration flight the next day. Got a good look at it in the temporary hanger though. The replica was not one of Nick's. I believe the man who flies it is the builder.

It seems nice to go up in an exact copy but I would feel a lot safer in one that had a few bugs worked out of it. When I think back to some of the things I built over the years and how much better "the second one" was than the first... As a much younger person my first motor scooter ride on one I made out of bits and pieces had the engine held down with "C" clamps. I always was a little impatient.
Sometimes the "prototype" is half baling wire and duct tape.
I recall reading that the very first Tucker car had over 400 pounds of lead in the body work. :)

My understanding is that the wb flyer was not very stable. The use of a forward rudder is not done today(without very sophisticated control mechanisms). I agree with Farmer: historical accuracy - OK - BUT not at the price of safety!.

Just heard back from Nick. He wasn't involved but it was a good friend of his. Injuries are extremely serious (torn aorta, broken back, no feeling in legs, etc.)
