Hi,

Thought you might enjoy seeing this. Two years ago I had leftover Hammered Copper paint (Rust-O-Leum, I think) after doing some Shopsmith refurbishing. I was bored in the winter and decided to overhaul my bicycle completely. So I had the spokes all removed while I worked over the hubs. I decided a bit of copper-tone on the wheels would be sharp. I did it, and they have been fine ever since, through quite a few miles!

Chris,
Do you recall how you prepped your wheels prior to paint? I agree that it sure seems to have held up nicely, especially on a surface that flexes.

Mike,

On those wheels the preparation was minimal. Probably I just sanded them to 220 or 320 grit. I masked off the braking surfaces and painted the inner rims. I did not use primer with the Hammered paint. The only spot where the paint has come off is a tiny point on one wheel where I hang the whole bike on a hook on the garage-wall. Since that spot wore off, I hang the bike the same way each time so there are no other worn spots.

P.S. Keep those Mk.V and 10ER photos coming!

I used one of the "hammered" paints on the windshield frame of my hot rod. Gold, I think. Anyway, it was sprayed on what had been a chrome-plated frame, which I had sandblasted.

None of it has fallen off. In fact, it's all in good shape, except where the old mirrors scraped it off.
