I just finished doing some posts on my Sunday project. It has to do with the shopsmith strip sander with the chisel sharpening attachment.

You might be interested if you do lathe work and don't have a work around for the need to mount the strip sander quill side.

You might like it if you like to do things by hand and want to listen to the radio or watch a game on TV while sharpening tools.

You might like it because you will not be heating the tips of your tools much if any amount.

You like to improve others ideas or maybe this will inspire you to get crazy in the shop.

And yes there is a link to a picture there as well.

You need a longer crank, but this is a brilliant idea! You could do something similar with the belt sander, also.

Yea the crank pictured is way to small... grizzly has one that has the 5/8" hole and are 6-1/4" dia. and are only $8.95. One of those might be handy for spinning the shopsmith without running it when changing speeds or for lathe work with an indexing setup.

I still might go back and make one using the same disk sander hub and a circle of plywood about 6" in dia and buy a handle. The thing I jury rigged was using a bushing and fastener and gave out on me after only 4 chisels... so I did the last one with this pictured crank...
