I have been trying to figureout how to build an out feed table for the SS mounted planer. I built one following Hudson Millers plan, and it is ok, but I did not execute it well. It is bulky for my shop.
I have been considering this idea. What is needed is something with at least 6-7 inches of lift, and a smooth motion to match the planer table exactly. I am wondering if an old SS carriage and table could be used to do this? I'm not sure what to use to replace the way tubes, or how to support them. Any ideas. E-bay has older parts for reasonable prices.

What type of live center do I need for pen turning? How about a link? I searched the old post but couldn't find it.

I think most woodturners would use a mandrel for that. I got mine from PSI and haven't looked back since.

I'm sure someone will post a link and point out the fact that I didn't.

I don't know if it would fit your need but I have been toying with an idea. I have thought of making a base like a mini, just legs and short tubes with a caster set and adding only two carriages to it. Then I could use two main tables and a couple of extension tables too if desired. It could be used for either in-feed or out-feed. It would be easy to raise and lower as needed and one or two fences could be used to help guide stock. It would be very configurable and in a mini size it would need little storage room. With the tables spread out and an added top it would make a great router table with the router hanging between the two main tables.

Here is a link to a solution that is similar to what you are proposing.

I think this is an absolutely perfect solution along with being a good use of harvested parts (left over from an upgrade).

I hope this is sufficiently off topic and off on enough of a tangent for here. :D
Yesterday I brought home two more projects for one of my hobbies. Both need work but that is much of the hobby. That and getting rid of excess funds. :D

The backgrounds of both pictures are at the seller's homes. That is the reason you don't see a lot of clutter. :)

I know they use a mandrel. But there is also some kind of center in the tailstock. I think it is a 60 degree.
