Once again I need your help. Maybe I am mechanically challenged.
Where do you add the oil to the jig saw?
This is how I ended up draining it, and it had very little in there. Is the the correct way to drain it?

On the opposite side is a large screw. Is this the "cap screw" mentioned in the manual, "Add oil until it begins to run out the cap screw hole."

Here is the top of the jig saw. I assume you don't add oil from any of the fixtures on the top.

Jerry, this thread covers the jig saw pretty good. http://www.shopsmith.net/forums/showthread.htm?t=4218&highlight=jig+maintenance -----Dave

Thanks Judaspre for the link to the jig saw discussion. Wish I had read that before I took of the Magna plate. I guess I'll need to learn how to make gaskets now. One thing I noticed about my gasket is that it seemed like there was a lot of abrasive material on both sides of the gasket. Maybe it was saw dust, but it felt more like fine sand.
Do you also drain it out of the fill hole by tipping it on its side?

I add oil to the jigsaw through the cap screw hole.
Thanks for your reply Rob. Just so I am clear on this. Is the picture with the screw circled in white the "cap screw?"
Do you also drain the out of the unit by removing the cap screw and tipping the jig saw on its side?

Yes, you can install and drain the oil out the cap screw hole. However I find a lot of sludge inside the housing that needs cleaning and the housing gasket is normally seeping oil so I remove the cover (4 screws) and make a new gasket for the cover. I use 3 oz. of non-detergent oil (air compressor oil from Lowes or HD).

Thanks Bill. I should have mentioned in my photo with the Magna cover removed that was all the oil in the sump. I "drained" it by wiping it out with a rag.

Unnerstand now why I suggested checking the oil in BOTH jig saws?;)
Looking at the crankcase it looks like the gasket has disintegrated and has left debris on the edges.
I would clean it off to obtain a good surface for a NEW gasket. Gasket material in rolled up sheets are available at auto parts stores. FEL-PRO is a brand I got that was 12" x 36" for around $6. You can use the cover as a template.
Look for the breather hole and make sure it is clear of debris. It is on the side of the crankcase opposite the upper support arm.
Compressor oil is inexpensive <$5/pint.
