I'm not sure Nick accesses the forum daily, so you might want to call Shopsmith directly to get the address if it wasn't posted on the web site.

Layoffs what did I miss. I know shopsmith has been struggling and they hired a group to come in and try to get things back on track but I haven't heard anything lately. I still think if the machine is more available it will be bought. Like the years you could get it several parts at woodcraft. Putting it in lowes was a step but you could only buy when the demo was going on. I guess you could special order but who knew and its hard to spend 3 grand on a picture in a catalog.

First, I'm NOT an insider nor do I have any direct reliable information, but the mention of layoffs got my interest up so I looked for more info - from what I can tell from the company's financial statements, savings from layoffs was reported at $135,000 so it looks like me that this was a small move - perhaps only 1-2 people depending on position, salary, benefits and so on. Nothing to get excited about, just a minor adjustment. Of course, those people laid off probably aren't happy, but overall from a business standpoint it sounds to me like the company is taking positive and responsible steps. Of course I could be wrong - this is just my humble opinion from the outside looking in.

There is another thread from yesterday that talked about the lay offs. It also contains a letter from the President of SS.

Well, here we go again. Changing subjects in the middle of a thread. I'm bad for this.

curly; hope you got all the info needed to get to that Traveling Academy class OK. It seemed like charlese had given you all the info available.

manvelar,

I don't know anyone on this forum, other than Nick and a couple Academy Instructors, who could consider themselves to be "insiders". But the info that seems to arrive here is always interesting, some times scarry, and recently of great concern to everyone with a Shopsmith.

I don't know where you learned that $135,000 was the corporate savings recognized by the layoff but you are right; if that is the amount, this isn't a big business move EXCEPT to those who paid the price.

I would suggest that everyone , who is interested, read Nick's post carefully. Read nothing into it. Take it at face value and wait to hear more. Speculation and curiousity, in a situation like this, almost always lead to some false conclusions.

Hoping for the Best and
