I made these four mounting bases as a Christmas present for my son-in-law. While they are not dimensionally interchangeable with Shopsmith's aluminum bases, they serve the same function.

At first I started sketching, then ended up on the drawing board with full size side and top views. There is some precision drilling involved as the 1 1/4" thru holes need to be exactly 7" apart on centers. I finished them with 3 coats of water based poly rather than paint them gray.

Rather clever of you, 8iowa! They look pretty close to the aluminum ones and for a lot less $$$. Good job!

Thumbs Up to you!! Wish I would have thought of this before I purchased the SS ones. At least I did purchase mine when they were on sale. I definitely will make one from your example if I ever have a need for any future add ons. thanks for sharing this with us.

Very nice. What are the dimensions on your stock? Also, it looks like there are holes drilled in the ends of the feel. Do you intend on bolting those down on a bench or shelf?
