this is built out of yellow pine. i have tried to use alot of what i have seen talked about here lately. box joints, mortise & tennons, molder, dowel pinned the joints. there was no plans, had it in mind to build a lap desk. debbie had other plans she's good . the legs were just 2x4's glued together cut 3 in. square. 30 inches long. the desk is 30 inches long 24 inches deep. this was my first attempt at box joints.and mortise& tenons. box joints did decent, on one corner had to a norm abrams ( glue and saw dust) dont tell any one. my tenons were tight. i pinned the tenons with 1/4 in. dowels. this will be a belated christmas present for my 11 year old grandaughter. still a way to go with the finish. remember now this way made outa scrap material. it took 3- 2x4's 8 ft. 1 sheet 3/4 plywood . 1- 1x6x8 1- 1x8x8 took a weekend to build. hagreat day _____ jim 7195

Nice job, Jim. That desk looks like it work be perfect in your shop. Is that where you intend to us it.
or does Debbie have other ideas?

Nice work, Jim! Did you use the lathe duplicator for the legs? Or, if knot, what method did you use to "duplicate" them? Your granddaughter will love it!

knew i forgot something yes, i did use the lathe duplicator. but wasn't first time use it quite often . there was nothin to go by when i cut fist leg. just knew it needed a lil mass to it. i'm purdy fair with the lathe , but no way i can copy 4 alike without the duplicator . which reminds me . and dusty will testify to this , for i read alot of his threads on accracy( sorry about the spelling). i can't get my equipment to within 1/ 100th but i can get them close.and u hear alot about set-up time with the mark v. why the hurry. i enjoy the time when i set-up for i know what i can produce with the time it takes me to set-up. shop time is a joy to me . and no dusty the desk will go to my 11 year old grandaughter . her belated christmas present. she spent christmas with her father. __________jim

u hear alot about set-up time with the mark v. why the hurry. i enjoy the time when i set-up for i know what i can produce with the time it takes me to set-up. shop time is a joy to me .
I can't agree more. Nice desk. I should do something like that in my shop for layout and sketching.

Very nice desk, Jim! Man! To do that kind of project in a weekend is an accomplishment in itself!
Looks like a very sturdy desk. I'm pretty sure your Granddaughter will have that with her for many years. Wonder if she will let her kids and grandkids use it?
Love the pencil grooves on the top! And the stop near the lower edge of the desk top. Very thoughtful!
