Just got back to hobby time after taking my wife for a lovely weeks vacation in the motorhome. Though it was fun, I had just purchased the hardware for pen turning, and I was anxious to get back and give it a try. Today I layed out all the lathe stuff and started. All four pens came out acceptable. The fourth was almost acceptable to my eye. It was a fun day, and the challenge of a flawless finish and bringing out the grain grows on you. Think I'll order some more kits.

It is fun. I have enjoyed it too. I made them on the SS for a year or so and just got a small Jet lathe and set up a little pen turning area in the shop. I have a good friend that has a motor home and he has a small pen lathe mounted in one of those lower pull out compartments on the side of his rig. He turns pens from wood he finds along the road. His has a display he calls State Pens. He as a pen for each state but Hawaii.
