If you feel that the creation of the National Shopsmith Woodworkers Association, also known as the NSWA, would be of benefit to Shopsmith owners/users, please take a minute to answer this poll.

The NSWA will consist of a national association and local chapters. To read more about the NSWA, please refer to the earlier posted thread in the Community section of this forum.

The poll is just a simple YES or NO question.

...uh, Woody...either my reading skills have left me or you never really asked a question for me to answer. Just what is it I'm supposed to say "Yes" or "No" to? There were a number of things proposed in the thread. Am I saying yes or no to all of them? What if I like some suggestions but not others? And do you really think you're going to get a "Yes" or "No" answer out of this crowd? Dream on -- the keys on Dusty's and Ed in Tampa's computers barely have time to cool down while they're sleeping...if they ever sleep.

If you want to conduct a poll, I suggest you prepare a brief description of the organization you're proposing, followed by a list of the possible activities the organization could conduct and the benefits it might offer. Let us vote yes or no on each activity or benefit, followed by a comment if we want to make one. We'll all make comments, anyway. You might as well give us permission.

With all good wishes,

The poll question is: Do you think the creation of an NSWA will benefit Shopsmith owners/users?

IMHO, Yes. If a National Association was formed, if would provide benefits; if it didn't, no one would join.

The list of benefits that one who might join should reasonably expect has not been provided.

What would entice me to join? No one has asked me that. I suppose everyone who might ask believes that they already know.

If I could find a group of woodworkers (Shopsmith users preferred) who would meet on a regular basis, at a location that was readily accessible to me, for the purpose of exchanging information/ideas/opinions/experiences/ skills/tips relative to the broad subject of "woodworking" --- I would be one of the group.

I can have all of that right now, except for one thing. I can't afford to go to Dayton, Ohio for Academy sessions.

I also can't afford to transport myself to any other far flung location for NSWA sessions.

What I would really like to find is an informal group of Shopsmith owners/users
who were inclined to "get together" periodically for the purpose of exchanging information/ideas/opinions/experiences/skills/tips.

The Traveling Academy did all of that. The only problem was "it doesn't happen often enough" and probably never could because the TA must be financially sound.

A local group of Shopsmith users might be able to pull it off. If we could just acquire a list of all the users within our respective arenas. I know a few here in Arizona (as a result of the forum) but I only know three here in Tucson.

I'll bet that there are MORE.

What's more, I'd bet we could have a lot of good times if we could find a way to meet now and then in someones garage to make some sawdust.

Who knows, we might even solve some nagging alignment problems, create some fixtures, learn some general shop tricks, and 'whatever' (to coin something I hear frequently from the grandkids). Whatever.

To help this along, if you are interested, please consider providing some of the provile information requested when you join the forum. Allow email or private messages, tell what town you live in, etc. Who knows, there might be a group right in your neighberhood.

Hi Everyone,

In my original message I posted with the poll I asked for everyone to take a look at the previous thread posted in the Community part of the forum. There is a lot more info about what the NSWA (National Shopsmith Woodworkers Association) is about in that thread, and lots of comments too.

I felt it would be redundit to repeat everything here again. I feel though that is what everyone will like to see. So, on those requests I will post what I feel is what some of the goals of the NSWA will be here in this thread. I, unfortunately, can't do this at this time and I hope to post this information tomorrow morning.

Thanks for your interest in the NSWA snd I hope I can answer your questions very soon.

Hey Woodburner!

Good to see you back on-line! I hope you've been well.
Any progress on the NSWA?

NSWA has a good ring to it. I think, though, that something more locally focused could be a (your city/county/etc. here) Shopsmith Woodworker's Guild. I've found guilds to be quite informative. And, at times, rambunctious.

Just a reminder that there is the poll asking shopsmith owners if having national shopsmith organization is a good idea. Only about 35 members have voted in the poll, with the yes votes winning. But the lack of votes have me worried that not to many shopsmith owners are interested in forming a national organization. Also, maybe its because the poll is getting dated and know one sees it in the forum anymore.

So for right now, the poll is still open and I hope this message will help in bringing the poll back to the front of the line.

PLEASE VOTE!!!!:D:) ;)
