Anyone replacing their trunnion or miter set screws may want to modify the drive slot prior to installation. It's way too deep and prone to breaking off if you screwdriver isn't the perfect fit in the slot and if your alignment isn't just right. I broke two of them during install. Removing was kind of a pain since it has to be done with pliers.

It would be best to grind the end down so that the slot is just deep enough to get a good grab with the screw driver. The top pic is the original and you can see they had the shallow drive slot which I consider the better design. The new black-oxide ones SS sent me had the slot that is way too deep and prone to bending / snapping.

Where are these used, micky. I don't seem to be able to locate slotted set screws anywhere in either the miter gauge or the trunnion.

I suspect that since I have a 510 this alert doesn't apply to my machine.

On my 5, they are one the underside of the miter gage (3 of them) and backside of the table angle trunnion (2 there) and are used as the positive stop adjustment of the 45 and 90 degree positions. A retractable pin is depressed and comes in contact with set screw when you want to stop at the exact angle.

How are the postive angel stops performed on the V?

Good to see you on the 'puter vs. in the shop dusty. Keep up the doctors orders. Time will pass quickly.

Dusty: This only applies to a 505 +.

Mike: The V-500 is the same. The V-505,510,520 use a different scheme. The 90 degree stop(drill press position) is the same as earlier models. They have a similar 45 degree stop in the opposite direction, also using 1/4-20 bolts whose heads also rest on the underside of the table surface.

The zero degree stop(90 degree to saw blade) is also a 1/4-20 bolt whose head comes into contact with a pin which is manually pushed into position. It is located on the face of the trunion.

Personally I prefer the 10 plain screw/jam nut method, but can see the advantage to the additional sturdiness of the 505+ tables.
