I got some pens and bushings from Woodcraft. I know I should stick with one supplier for my kits (there could be some variations). There are pens from other suppliers that I like. I was wondering if a kit is compatable with my bushings. (I am poor and trying to cut down on buying new bushings)

Here's an article I came across a while back on making your own bushings using Corian -- http://www.redriverpens.com/pdf%20files/makingbushings.pdf

Also, you can find tons of information on turning pens at the International Association of Penturners site: http://www.penturners.org/ and also at the Yahoo Group site: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/penturners

The slim pens I have gotten from different suppliers have all used the 7mm bushing. On other pens that look much the same bushing do seem to very with manufactures. I have noted a difference in the length of the brass tubes in the slim pens kits. Woodcraft tubes and Pen State Tubes are just a bit longer that the ones from Woodturningz pens. I found when I was putting together slim pens from scrap parts from different suppliers. I had to be carful. They work, but you have to be carful of how far you seat in the twist mechanism on the shorter brass tubes.
