First Mark V given to me by a man who developed primary progressive MS. The other day while browsing eBay, found another Mark V in my local area for sale. Posted price was $700 but did not mention that he had all the original parts. Made a visit, SS in great shape, ran quietly, we negotiated for $500 and he threw in all the lathe parts, the sander disk (steel), saw blades, safety tools, bandsaw and several boxes of other stuff that I've not had time to investigate at the moment. Got a garden to get in before it gets too warm. Will inventory in a couple of days. Given SS made in October 1984, purchased SS made in Sept 1985. Wife says that is all that I get, so sawdust making time.

Is the reason for having more than one (or two) shopsmiths to save on tool change over? I can see maybe having one as saw and the other in sand or horizontal drill press.

I think the main reason is just because we like the things so darn much! But yeah, saving on tool change over is a nice bonus.

This sorta sounds like an arguement for "stand alones". It is much like my shop has gotten to be. Multiple power stations each with SPT mounted = standalone shop.

When I was much younger, I didn't mind wrestling with the SPT. Now, at my age, I prefer to not relocate SPT every time I want to use it.

Especially the jointer! or the planer.

To me the real beauty of having multiple SS's is having multiple SS's. :)
OK. Maybe that didn't make much sense.
I could sell all of my SS stuff and buy all stand alone tools but if my saw (or other mode) went down I would not have backup. I would just be down... As I have it now SS's could go down all afternoon and I could just move to another one. :D
And... I would not have one tenth of the flexibility (setup ability) with stand alones...
