8241I wrote earlier today about how to re-install the motor on a Shopsmith I inherited but I didn't even know what model machine I have. I looked on the plate and this is what I came up with.

Motor Mod: C48L2A16
Ser: 6G81
Volts 115 HP 1 1/8
Amps 13.5
RPM: 3450

Can anyone tell by what I've provided above the model I have?

Someone suggested that the upper tubes (sorry I don't know the proper lingo) be in the verticle position (drill press position). That makes sense, as my problem comes from trying to squeeze the motor and attached pan between the two sets of horizontal tubes.

I can't see that either of the sets of sheaves are broken. The sheaves that are on motor shaft are making a metal-on-metal grinding sound when I hand spin it. It is bad, but does make a little noise. Other than that I don't see any chips or chunks out of the sheaves.

I am trying to attach photos of the machine.

Either the pulley is loose on the shaft(not likely since they are keyed), or the motor bearings are bad.

The info above is the motor model. For the shopsmith info, look to the shiney round plate in the middle of the belt cover(left side). Tell us what it says.

By the pics, you have a model 500. The plate between the two shafts on the left side end.

It is a model 500 but the headstock is the same on all models (with some changes over the years) The model had more to do with the table system you have and not the power unit (Head stock)

In other words. If you were to order a Model 500, 505, 510 or 520 you would receive the exact same headstock from Shopsmith.
