Beads of Courage is a program dedicated to helping children cope with serious illness.
Patients diagnosed with cancer or other types of serious illness are given a strand of beads with their name on it.
For every medical treatment they complete, they are given beads which represent their personal journey.
Beads collected throughout the recovery process become a symbol of challenges faced and a life forever changed.
Each child is given a purple heart when they go into remission.
Parents who lose a child are given a butterfly bead.

Beads of Courage Program serves over 60 children’s hospitals nationwide, as well as international programs in Japan and New Zealand.

What they need are either “Turned” or “Flat Work” finished lidded boxes.
The "Treasure Boxes" then will be donated to hospitalized children to keep their beads in.
Optimum Sizes: Turned 6-12" Dia or Flat Boxes 4Wx4Hx6L or bigger.
More info on the program can be found on their website

(btw: Dusty this is based in Tucson)

Woodworld in Texas has taken this on as a project.

I first heard of this when they affiliated with the International Society of Glass Bead Makers back in (I think 2005). I was on the board of directors then.
Beadmakers have since donated tens of thousands of handmade beads.

Please consider making a box or two.

Thanks!

It's overwhelming to see one of these bead strands over 10 ft long and think about every bead represents a procedure that they have had to endure.
