Thanks Tom.
I saw the video of the kid preparing the blank on YouTube. Looks like a tedious process. It is nice to have the hard part done for you.

The hard part? I haven't started making any pens yet, but that looked like the "fun" part to me! :D

Hey Heath
I guess I'm looking at it from the sales side of making pens. To put the blank together looks time consuming but fun also. If I were to make the Celtic Knot blank it would be as a gift. When I make pens to sell, I try to keep the labor time in check. You know the old saying "time is money". :D You will love pen making if you decide to try it. It can become very addictive.

I have made several celtic knot pens using the procedure in the youtube video. I used the bandsaw as he did in the video. By not cutting all the way through the pen blank the process of creating the pen blank is pretty easy. Hardest part is getting the contrasting inlay the same thickness as the kerf. Presently working on a "knot" that has contrasting colors of wood within the knot. One needs to completely cut through the pen blank and getting all pieces glued up and in alignment is more of a challenge. I have not mastered it to my liking as of yet.

Just thought I'd post a follow-up. I picked up a couple of the blanks from them. Here's the results of one. The blank is Rosewood with Maple inserts. The kit is PSI's Gatsby.
